Term Two is now long gone and we are well into Term Three. We want to say congratulations to all the Get Runners for running 30 minutes and to the Stay Runners for completing the 7km Bay Run. You should all feel very proud.
Run leaders Jo, Aoiffe and Bec take a look at how Term Two went.
Jo Coombe – Get Running
It was my first time leading the course and I was a bit nervous. I had never used the apps before and Aoiffe had to show me.
I had 15 ladies in the group and they were really motivated. Considering a lot of them hadn’t run before or hadn’t run for a long time, by the end of the nine weeks they were over the moon they had run for half an hour.
Now the majority of runners have gone on to Stay Running and the ones that can’t join because they’ve gone overseas for work or vacation are going to join up for Term Four.
The final run was a big success. They couldn’t believe they had run thirty minutes without stopping. Afterwards we all went to the UTS rowing club and had a bottle of bubbles. Karen and Sam joined us from the Keep Running group and spoke about their experiences and running journeys too. Everyone was just really happy, including me.
Bec – Stay Running
This was a really great group. One thing I noticed was some weeks people were running with me in the front and some people were running more towards the back. Then it would change the following week. It goes to show you can feel really good for some runs and on other weeks you might feel like going slower.
The other thing I noticed was that the people who regularly did their homework runs together improved really well.
The final night run was really good. When the Stay Runners looked back over the last nine weeks they felt a great sense of success. Also, the people that went from Get Running were amazed that under six months they had gone from not being able to run at all to running the entire lap of the bay. That’s a pretty massive achievement.
